Costa Rica's Mission Evangelism Report

Evangelism News

Costa Rica's Rich Coast Our mission trip to Costa Rica was a great blessing. As I am reminded of the people and places in Costa Rica it brings great joy to my heart that we all serve such a loving, all wise, and wonderful God.

Our airplane landed in San Jose, Costa Rica in the early evening. Pastor Senior of Panorama, Profectico SDA Church was there to take us back to Limon, Costa Rica. We traveled more than 2 1/2 hours from San Jose to Limon. Limon is a costal city on the border of Panama. Limon is a very beautiful tropical region with lots of natural resources. Costa Rica is also a very prosperous and peaceful country with a strong industrious economy. Consequently, many families have migrated to Costa Rica from various countries such as Panama, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and other Caribbean Islands.

The Evening Meetings We began our evangelistic efforts going from house to house praying for many families and inviting them to come out to our evening meetings under the tent. The people of Limon are predominately Catholic, so many were very receptive to us. It wasn't long before we had a full tent of visitors and members from the community, and the local Adventist Church. However, the purpose of our efforts were to evangelize those in the community. The programs and meetings were planned with lots of signing, praying, and preaching. There were more than 12 people organizing the meetings each night. As you can see in the pictures, visitors of all ages came out each night.

Pastor Senior and other members of the local SDA Church had a full program plan for the children and the adults. What a blessing each night was for me as I shared the gospel of Jesus Christ. We had a quiz each night and we gave away books on prayer, bibles, music CDs, and much more. The meetings were scheduled for two weeks, but we decided to extend them another week because the visitors kept coming each night of the second week. We studied the biblical evidence for Christ, the son of God, Creation, Redemption, The Second Coming of Christ, The Sabbath, Man's State in Death, The Sanctuary, and the Great Controversy between Christ & Satan. What a blessing is was to see people stand on the side of Jesus Christ when the final appeal was made. We had several decide for baptism on the last night of the meetings. God miraculously held back the seasonal rains so common to this tropical region during this time of the year. We were blessed by the prescence of God and holy angels as we studied each subject night after night. I'm looking forward for a return trip sometime late this year. Please continue to pray for our brethren and the newly baptized canidates in Costa Rica that God will pour of his spirit in a large measure to prepare us all for His second coming. Amen!

A Powerful Feeding Ministry in India

Evangelism News

A Lifechanging Feeding Ministry We found our special feeding ministry to be widely accepted and to be among the greatest blessings to the people of India. Many people came from long distances (15km) to the meetings and they spent the whole morning with us on the last Sunday. We had many local volunteers participate in this feeding ministry. The volunteers constructed a make-shift kitchen under a smaller tent behind the tent used for the meetings each night. There were four (4) fire-pits constructed out of hard clay that would be used to heat the rice, curry sauce, potatoes, and noodles. On the last Sunday after our baptisms, there were five volunteers and five bible workers working together to cook the food and serve it to as many as 1000 people at each site. It put a BIG smile on the face of every man, women and child to receive this unexpected gift of love. The women and children were organized on one side, while the men were organized on the other. All sat down and received a plate of food. I’m sure you can tell from the pictures that everyone was very happy. This ministry is an object lesson of the great blessing in store for those who are faithful to Jesus. One day very soon, God’s people will have a special marriage supper in the heavenly New Jerusalem. This truth is illustrated in Matthew 22, and Revelation 19:6-9. Just as this supper brought many happy faces to the people of Sundarban, so will the great marriage supper in heaven bring many happy faces to the people of God. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” Revelation 21:4. Let us all keep this vision in view as we approach the consummation of our hope in these final hours of earth’s history. Amen!

Victory in India - Over 775 Baptized!

Evangelism News

God is so good! We are so very thankful to God for the souls that decided for baptism on this trip. This mission trip to Kolkuta, India will go down as one of the most memorable and challenging mission trips so far. Nonetheless, it was a great, life-changing blessing! We all learned many valuable lessons on this trip. I will not here dwell upon the challenges and lessons from this trip. However, I would like to thank God especially for His grace and Pastor Ron Goss of Project Restore for sponsoring this trip. I would also like to thank Pastor Ron Watts of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists for his support to the people of India. And finally, I would like to thank Haige Velasco, Pastors David Vikas, Nirmal Manna, Dr. Sanchia, and the twenty-five (25) bible workers and volunteers in Kolkuta, West Bengal, India for their hard work and dedication to the success of this mission trip. This mission trip was indeed a group effort. Every person was vital to its success.

Island South 24 Paraganas, Sundarban

India's Lifestyle & Culture As we journeyed to our first meeting site, I couldn’t help but notice the unique culture and life-style of the people on this Island. The Sundarban area is an island located in the west Bengal state of India. It has a large population of people who are dedicated to the Hindu religion. They live a very simple life and have many hard battles to fight such as poverty, sickness, disease, and hard labor. The Sundarban people are very industrious; building their homes out of bamboo, clay, bricks, and straw. I found the people of this area to be very nice and sacrificial. The women work hard at keeping the home and raising the children, while the men work in the rice and potato fields or in the market selling and exporting goods.

One thing I found most interesting was how closely the Sundarban culture compares to the culture of the new-testament. From the activity in the market place, to the selection of employees, the drawing of water from the well, the marriage ceremony, and much more all tends to relate to the biblical culture of the new-testament with amazing accuracy. read more>>

Bolivia Missionary Tour & Update - January 2011

Evangelism News

Bolivia Missions, Life & People What a BLESSING this trip was to Cochabamba, Bolivia this past January, 2011. Originally, we had seven people scheduled to go on this trip. At the last minute, I found out that most of them could not go for various reasons. We had a plan to work together in training the pastors and church members using the ASI Ministries training material for evangelism. ASI Ministries had pledge to donate the material for the local mission conference in Cochabamba, Bolivia. However, we were not able to make the training material available to the mission conference during this trip. As the last day approached for us to depart, we discovered another major problem. We had no translators to interpret the sermons and material to Spanish. In desperation I prayed that God would work a miracle and provide all the help that was needed. Then I posted a message on facebook communicating our needs to the people within the Breach Builders support group. Immediately, a young lady named Dagmar Encinas who currently lives in Cochabamba, Bolivia offered to help us. Fortunately Dagmar speaks spanish and english very well. What an answer to prayer!

Bolivia Land, Friends & Health Missions

Upon my arrival in Cochabamba, Bolivia I couldn’t help but to notice the unique life and culture of the native Bolivian people. I found them to be very friendly and courteous in spite of the language barrier between us. What a great blessing this mission trip was for everyone on the team. read more>>>

Philippine Church Construction Project

Evangelism News

Last January 2010, we went over to Southern Luzon, Philippines for an evangelistic meeting. The meetings were a great success and we published a detail report of the 66 souls who were baptised into the church.

It was a wonderful joint effort of more than 12 missionary volunteers from America.

In the area were these meetings were held there is no Seventh-day Adventist Church. Our group, together with the Saint Helena SDA Church decided to raise money to build a church. Since that time we are happy to report the progress of the Filivest Church construction project. Below, you can see the pictures and development of this project. So far the group has invested more than $12,000 dollar to complete the sabbath school rooms below the sanctaury and the foundation for the second floor sanctuary (see pictures). As of today (article date), we are still in need of about $2,500 more dollar to finish construction on the sanctuary portion.

Please help us raise $2,500 so we can complete this construction project. You may make your donation by clicking the secure donate on the left menu bar. You will receive a tax-deductible receipt for your donation. The brethren in the Southren Luzon Philippine District would GREATLY appreciate your help. Thank you!

Help Us Raise $2,500 To Finish The Sanctuary!

This is the footing and corner post construction. Each corner footing had to be excavated simular to this.  Here are the brethren of the church working to mix the concrete for the footings.
Here is the foundation for the second floor sanctuary. The sabbath school class rooms are below.  Here are the corner footings after the holes were excavated.

Christ's 6 Step Method Guarantees Success

Evangelism News

"Christ's method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, ‘Follow Me.’” Gospel Workers p. 363

Note the following biblical commands for God’s people in the last days in the work of evangelism. (Matthew 24:14; 5:13-16) There is only one way that we may be sure of success and that’s found in the ministry of Jesus. Let’s Study Christ’s Methods of ministry while He was here on this earth:

1 - “The Savior mingled…

2 - As one who desired their good

3 - He showed His sympathy

4 - Ministered to their needs, and

5 - Won their confidence

6 - Then he bade them ‘follow me’

City Mission Trip

Evangelism News

Just recently, I was invited to help out with a city mission program in Alabama State. Next week, I am planning to visit this city mission operation. There is great need for a city mission program in every state across Amercia. Jesus taught his disciples how to work the cities in his day. We find the details in Luke 10:1-13 "After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. 2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly [is] great, but the labourers [are] few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. 3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. . .10. But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you."

This example of city mission work applies especially to our day. We are living in the last days before the coming of Jesus. As it was in the days of Jesus, so it is in this our day. "The harvest truly [is] great, but the labourers [are] few." I solicit your prayers for this trip. I will be updating this site as we progress.

As a people, we must prepare the way of the Lord, under the overruling guidance of the Holy Spirit. The gospel is to be proclaimed in its purity. The stream of living water is to deepen and widen in its course. In fields nigh and afar off, men will be called from the plow, and from the more common commercial business vocations, and will be educated in connection with men of experience. As they learn to labor effectively, they will proclaim the truth with power. Through most wonderful workings of divine providence, mountains of difficulty will be removed. The message that means so much to the dwellers upon earth will be heard and understood. Men will know what is truth. Onward, and still onward, the work will advance, until the whole earth shall have been warned. And then shall the end come. {RH, November 22, 1906 par. 7}

Church Construction Progress #3

Evangelism News

Note: I just received this email message and I thought to post it for our supporters to see. We started this project by faith in God's ability to provide and we'll continue to move forward in faith on this project. We appreciate any support you will give.

I am so happy to extend to you the heartfelt thanks of the brethren here in Filinvest Church for your support in the church building. The foundation of the building is so strong that it reaches beyond the level of the Creek, and that is our pride.  The problem is, it cost a lot of money to put that kind of foundation, but, rest assured that it will not breakdown until Jesus comes. :).

Attached to this email are the pictures of the latest development of the construction and the summary of expenses.  I don't know what is really your plan for this church. It is so embarrassing to ask for more assistance because its like "you gave your hands already, and yet we are still asking you to give your arm."  It's funny, but, that is true.  However, what is in my mind is that you people are different, and that's give me the gust to be honest with you.  The remaining money is not enough to put a slab for the first floor. The brethren wish to have the slab finished to serve as a roof to the first floor so they can use it for worship every sabbath. They need about 50K pesos more to put the slab.  I don't know if this is not too much for you.  Nevertheless, we still believe that God is Omnipotent Who has a lot of solutions to every mans problem. Thank you so much again for your concern and commitment to the work of our Creator.

Your Brother in Christ,

Church Construction Progress report #2

Evangelism News

Editor's Note: The construction is still going forward according to plan in the Philippines. The newly baptized brethren are being nurtured by Pastor Lito, Joel (translator), and Nestor. We solicit your prayers for the work there in the Philippines. If you would like to get involved with missions post comments below, or sign in as a new user and send us a private message.

Church Construction Progress#2

Lito is back! He wants to stay and help us nurture the newly baptized at san francisco, with Joel and Nestor.  They will just divide the six thousand pesos allowance every month.  Rocil was not here last saturday.

Twelve of them attended soro-soro and about twenty attended chrysanthemum.  According to joel, some of the newly baptized told him that they cannot attend the church because their parents sent them to wash their clothes. The one-legged man is always at soro-soro with a perfect attendance every sabbath.  We divide the group into four with Leaders and secretaries and we assigned adventist members to each group to conduct visitation, worship and follow-up bible studies.

Thank you for all your prayers!

Luis
