No Taproot?

Bible Studies

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

1Co_15:58.

In order to be firmly anchored, there must be something firm to hold us; and nothing will avail until Christ takes possession of the soul. . . . Many who now appear strong, and talk in vindication of the truth, are not rooted and grounded. They have no tap-root; and when the storms of opposition and persecution come, they are like a tree uprooted by the blast.

We shall be attacked on every point; we shall be tried to the utmost. We do not want to hold our faith simply because it was handed down to us by our fathers, Such a faith will not stand the terrible test that is before us. We want to know why we are Seventh-day Adventists --what real reason we have for coming out from the world as a separate and distinct people. . . .

When men are willing to become intelligent in regard to the cause of God because they have invested faith and means in it, God will help them to understand, and they will be steadfast in the faith; but when they have merely a theory, a shallow faith they cannot explain, a sudden temptation will cause them to drift away with the current bearing toward the world. . . .

Our minds must be prepared to stand every test, and to resist every temptation, whether from without or from within. We must know why we believe as we do, why we are on the Lord's side. The truth must keep watch in our hearts, ready to sound an alarm, and summon us to action against every foe. The powers of darkness will open their batteries upon us; and all who are indifferent and careless, who have set their affections on their earthly treasure, and who have not cared to understand God's dealings with His people, will be ready victims. No power but a knowledge of the truth as it is in Jesus, will ever make us steadfast; but with this, one may chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight.

Christians In Dress

Bible Studies

1. For each and every Christian believer, what are we to make first and most important in our lives?

______________________________________________________________________
1 Cor. 10:31

Every Christian should make it his first and supreme purpose to please Jesus Christ in all that he does. When one accepts Christ as his Lord and Saviour, this means that from this time on he is to live, not to please the world, not to please himself, but to live each day as will please Him whom he has chosen as his Lord.

2. How should we eat, drink, dress, talk, sing, and act if we are Christians?

_____________________________________________________________________
2 Cor. 5:14, 15

Being true Christians, we will eat, drink, dress, talk, sing, and act so as to please Christ. The only way we can please Jesus in all things is to see to it that we govern ourselves in all matters according to the principles He has laid down in the Guidebook, the Bible, and not according to the vain customs of the world.

3. How should the believer regard such adornments as gold, pearls, and costly cloths?

_______________________________________________________________________
1 Tim. 2:9

We are to adorn ourselves in modest apparel, and not to adorn ourselves with gold or pearls as ornaments. According to the Bible, our dress should be plain, modest, healthful, neat, clean, becoming, and appropriate. If fashion prescribes any mode of dress that is unhealthful, immodest, or extravagant, Christians should refuse to follow it, but should stand by the principles laid down in the Bible.

4. How should the Christian regard clothing that doesn’t proper cover the whole body?

______________________________________________________________________
Gen. 3:7, 21

Any mode of dress that does not properly cover one’s person is wrong. In harmony with this principle, Christian women should dress modestly. They should not appear in public with sleeveless dresses, or dresses that are too short, or any other form of dress that does not properly cover that body.
