1 million pounds of ground beef recalled

Healthful Living

Editor's Note: This news item should wake us all up to seriousness of the time that we live in. We have been warned about the diseased condition of the animal kingdom just before the coming of Jesus. Note the following statements, "The animal creation is diseased. Flesh meats are diseased." CD p. 330 "The fact that meat is largely diseased should lead us to make strenuous efforts to discontinue its use entirely." HL 105 May God help us to make this change by His grace.

Consumers are being warned to check their freezers for recalled beef that may be contaminated with E. coli. The Modesto California-based meat processor Valley Meat Company is voluntarily recalling approximately one million pounds of ground beef.  The beef may contain a rare strain of the bacterium E. coli O157:H7.

The Valley Meat Company says the ground beef patties and bulk products were  produced between October 2nd, 2009 through January 12th, 2010 and were distributed to retail outlets and institutional foodservice providers in California, Texas, Oregon, Arizona and overseas.  A list of retailers has not yet been released, but a complete list of products has been published on the company's website.

So far seven people are believed to have been sickened between February and June according to a USDA press release.  Consumers are urged to throw away any of this beef, if they still have it in their freezers.

E. coli can cause serious illness including death in the most severe cases.  Consumers can avoid getting sick if they properly cook their meat to at least 160° F, which kills the bacteria. Article Reference. . .

Pennsylvania Dairy Farm Agrees to Stop Improper Medication

Healthful Living

The FDA is concerned about the sale of animals for human food that may contain illegal levels of animal drugs because of the potential for adverse effects on human health. The FDA approves new animal drugs with requirements, including a specified time period to withdraw an animal from treatment prior to slaughter, to ensure that a drug has been depleted from edible tissue to a level safe for humans.

The dairy farm sold animals through local livestock auctions to slaughterhouses that ship beef products to customers in New Jersey, New York, Maine, and Michigan.

The drug residues detected in tissue samples of the farm's dairy cows and veal calves during tests by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection Service included antibiotics such as neomycin, flunixin, desfuroylceftiofur, and sulfamethazine at levels not permitted by the FDA.

Amount of clone-derived meat in UK 'unknown'

Highland council and Food Standards Agency investigate history of bulls born from embryo taken from cloned cow

Cloned cow milk

Two bulls born from embryos harvested from a cloned cow had been slaughtered, one of which entered the food chain. Photograph: David Cheskin/PA. The Food Standards Agency has admitted that it does not know how many embryos from cloned animals have been imported into Britain, after it was revealed that meat from one had already entered the food chain and been eaten. Yesterday, the FSA revealed that meat from the offspring of a cloned cow entered the UK food chain a year ago, in the first official confirmation of a breach of food laws. A second bull born from an embryo taken from a cloned cow was slaughtered last week, but the meat was intercepted before it could be sold. The agency has found another cloned offspring in a dairy herd. Today, Highland council said it was investigating the history of both bulls with farmer Callum Innes from Auldearn, Inverness. "We are working with the FSA and we sent two animal health officers to the farm yesterday to meet and speak with the farmer." At least 96 cattle have been reported to be registered by the company New Meadow Holsteins of Inverness. Investigations by the food agency into the dairy cattle were also continuing. This is not believed to concern the same farm.

The Use of Herbs In Healing

Healthful Living
Right Living - Herbs, No Drugs
“Thousands who are afflicted might recover their health if, instead of depending upon the drug store for their life, they would discard all drugs, and live simply without using tea, coffee, liquor or spices, which irritate the stomach, and leave it weak, unable to digest even simple food without stimulation, and use had been made of such simple remedies as are found in pure water, pure air, sunlight, and some of the simple herbs growing in the field. These would be just as efficacious as the drugs used under mysterious names, and concocted by human science, and they would leave no injurious effects in the system.” Manuscript 115, 1903.
Learn To Use Herbs and Roots in Place of Drugs
“There are simple herbs and roots that every family may use for themselves, and need not call in a physician any sooner than they would call a lawyer.” C-17a-1893.
Reform Medical Practice
“This is God’s method. The herbs that grow for the benefit of man, and the little handful of herbs kept and steeped and used for sudden ailments, have served tenfold, yes one hundredfold better purposes, than all the drugs hidden under mysterious names and dealt out to the sick.” B-59, 1898.
Herbs That Are Harmless
“Those who make a practice of taking drugs sin against their intelligence and endanger their whole after life. There are herbs that are harmless, the use of which will tide over many apparently serious difficulties. But if all would seek to become intelligent in regard to their bodily necessities, sickness would be rare instead of common. An ounce of prevention is worth
a pound of cure.” MS W-182, 1899.
Figs for Hezekiah
“When the Lord told Hezekiah that He would spare his life for fifteen years, and as a sign that He would fulfill His promise, caused the sun to go back ten degrees, why did He not put His direct, restoring power upon the King? He told him to apply a bunch of figs to his sore, and that natural remedy, blessed by God, healed him. The God of nature directs the human agent to use natural remedies now.” MS W-182, 1899.
Herbs Versus Drugs
“There are simple herbs that can be used for the recovery of the sick, whose effect upon the system is very different from that of those drugs that poison the blood and endanger life.” Manuscript 73, 1908.
Nurses Can Use Herbs Instead of Drugs
“There are many simple herbs which, if our nurses would learn the value of, they could use in the place of drugs, and find very effective.” B-90, 1908.
Catnip Tea, Hop Tea, Hop Poultices, Mustard
“A cup of tea made from catnip herb will quiet the nerves. Hop tea will induce sleep. Hop poultices over the stomach will relieve pain. If the eyes are weak, if there is pain in the eyes, or inflammation, soft flannel cloths wet in hot water and salt, will bring relief quickly. When the head is congested, if the feet and limbs are put in a bath with a little mustard, relief will be obtained. God has caused to grow out of the ground herbs for the use of man, and if we understand the nature of those roots and herbs, and make a right use of them, there would not be a necessity of running for the doctor so frequently, and the people would be in much better health than they are today. I believe in calling upon the Great Physician when we have used the remedies I have mentioned.” The Paulson Collection of Ellen G. White Letters, Feb. 16, 1890.
