"And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, the restorer of paths to dwell in." Isaiah 58:12

Faith

In all walks of life men exercise faith or confidence in God and their fellowmen. Men believe the statements of other men, but to believe God unto salvation is quite anther matter.

The Basis of Faith

  1. Define faith. Heb. 11:1; Matt. 8:5-13

“Faith is the clasping of the hand of Christ in every emergency.” Gospel Workers, p. 262

  1. How necessary is faith? and why? Heb. 11:6

In many instances FAITH and BELIEF are synonymous (Mark 11:22-24). Saving faith grasps the seemingly impossible, while belief is usually the acceptance to historical fact.

  1. What are we asked to believe? Heb. 11:6; Matt. 9:28

  1. How is faith obtained? Rom. 12:3

  1. Upon what is faith based? Rom. 10:17

  1. Then how may faith be increased? John 5:39.

  1. What is the difference between faith and belief? Matt. 17:20; James 2:19

Complete salvation along with immortality, is a future consideration, and therefore, must be obtained by daily faith. However, we may know the initial works of God in the saving power of Jesus over every besetting sin in this life. (Titus 2:11-13; Titus 3:5-7)

Victory Through Faith

  1. What relation does faith bear to knowledge? Heb. 11:3

  1. Do all men have faith? 2 Thess. 3:2

  1. How should men live? 2 Cor. 5:7; Rom. 1:16, 17

  1. What is the result of failing to walk by faith? Rom. 14:23

  1. What is faith said to be? 1 John 5:4.

Principle texts: Heb. 11:1; John 5:39; Matt. 9:28; 1 John 5:4

Gem.

“True holiness is wholeness in the service of God. This is the condition of true Christian living. Christ asks for an unreserved consecration, for undivided service. He demands the heart, the mind, the soul, (and) the strength. Self is not to be cherished. He who lives to himself is not a Christian.” Christ's Object Lessons, pp. 48-49
