Country Outpost Tour 2010

Country Outpost Info.

A group of 14 people came together on September 2-6, 2010 for our annual Country Outpost Tour in Nothern California. BBM coordinated and sponsored the tour for those who are interested in learning more about country living. The Lord Jesus has graciously given us the following counsel:  "Educate our people to get out of the cities into the country, where they can obtain a small piece of land and make a home for themselves and their children." Adventist Home p. 373.  Education was the purpose of these meetings. Several families came together in the Shingletown and Manton area to provide practical training for the group. This training included:

  1. Setting up Solar Electrical Systems
  2. Efficient Irrigation Techniques
  3. Raised Bed Gardening
  4. Fruit Orchard Development
  5. Efficient Canning, Drying, & Freezing
  6. Preparing Winter Fire Wood

On Friday, September 03 Randay Hess and Bert Leverett led the group on the first phase of the tour in Shingletown and Hat Creek looking at a number of properties as listed on this site for sale. We were only interested in properties that had a good stable water source, well and/or creek and spring. It is important that the creek or spring be active all year long. We did find a number of properties available. It is always best to find country property that has lots of timber, water, and fresh air. Some other added features in looking for property would be nice views, and somewhat secluded from the noise and traffic of a major city. While on this trip, we discovered a number of available properties that met our criterion. We know from experience that many people are looking for country property below $100,000. So we hope to have another tour either this year or early next year to focus on properties under $100,000.

On Saturday, September 04 we all met together at Shirley Deyle's place in Shingletown for morning church service and lunch. Bert led out in the meetings on Sabbath. Walley had the children's program and Ray Mills conducted the early morning Sabbath School Class. During the early morning class we all discussed the book of Romans. It was indeed a blessing to meet together in the natural and beautiful setting of Shingletown California. The divine worship hour was led out by Bert Leverett and the subject was the Holy Spirit. The meetings were very encouraging and spirit-filled. After the morning meetings we all had a very nice and nutritious lunch. After lunch we gathered the children together for a walk in nature at the Lassen National Park. There was much for us to see out in nature as we walked and talked of God's mercy and love.

On Sunday, September 05 the tour continued with hands-on training and practical demonstrations. Bert taught the group how to set a solar panel array with an inverter and battery bank for living off grip.  At 10:30am we continued our tour at Thomas Muck's home in Manton Califorinia where the group was taught how to plant and irrigate a garden. Each stop on the tour would last 2 hours for lecturing and touring. Our next stop would be Linda McConnell's home. Linda had a very nice lunch prepared for the group and she spoke to the group regarding the spiritual prepartions of moving out of the cities. Linda's husband Duane, had a composting demonstration prepared for the group. It was all very practical and informative. At 3:30pm we continued the tour over to the Stewart's house for canning, drying, and freezing. Deborah Stewart taught the group how to preserve fruits and vegetables. All the information was very practical and easy to understand and follow. The kids were able to play outside together and what fun they had runing and playing.

In the light of all the events taking place around the world, let us continue to pray that God will grant us wisdom and discernment. If you are inspiried to move out of the cities pray for heaven's wisdom to move in the love and fear of God. Let us remember the reason for the move:

"But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city." Hebrews 11:17

"The trades unions and confederacies of the world are a snare. Keep out of them, and away from them, brethren. Have nothing to do with them. Because of these unions and confederacies, it will soon be very difficult for our institutions to carry on their work in the cities. My warning is: Keep out of the cities. Build no sanitariums in the cities." Adventist Home p. 373
